Azimut Yachts has been operating in the United Kingdom since 2002 but now with brand new offices in Hanover Square, at the very heart of Mayfair and boats at the Southampton Boat Show the Italian boat builder is making a fresh attack on the North European market.
At the upcoming Southampton Boat Show 2014 the Azimut Magellano 43 Fly will make her debut. This model is described by Azimut as ideally suited for use in the North Sea where one often has to sail in heavy seas with choppy waves.
Slightly provocatively the company suggests in an advertising campaign “The best boat for British people has been designed in Italy”.
It is certainly one way of drawing the attention of potential motor boat buyers to the 4 model range which includes:
- Magellano 43 Fly
- Magellano 43HT
- Magellano 53
- Magellano 7
Azimut Yachts has taken heavy weather cruising characteristics as its staring point in order to completely revise the idea behind semi-planning hulls, which has remained unchanged for years.
Designer Bill Dixon, has found a rather unusual way of combining the rounded keel shapes usually found in planning hulls with rather broad skids and a particularly sizeable vertical prow that reduces pitching as it functions as a natural buoyancy chamber allowing the boat to plough through the prow waves with greater ease.
The designs of the Magellano models provide greater interior volumes. The Magellano 43, for example, powered by an in line engine, still manages to manages to fit 3 cabins and 2 bathrooms with a separate shower column in just a 13 metre space below deck.
