Built in 1930 for the American paper magnate Hugh J. Chisholm, the 74.3m (243’ 9) USS Williamsburg was one of the world’s largest privately owned yachts at the time of her delivery.
In 1941 she was purchased by the US military for use as a Patrol Gunboat (PG-56). After honourable service in WWII she was decommissioned and converted for use as the presidential yacht for President Truman.
During this time, the White House was undergoing extensive renovation and the Williamsburg was used to host visiting heads of state and dignitaries as well as US government officials.
With visitors such as Winston Churchill regularly onboard, the yacht soon became known as the “sea going White House”.
After the Truman years, this yacht continued to be used for a variety of purposes until she eventually became property of a shipyard in Italy where she fell into serious disrepair.
David Sea of Camper & Nicholsons is now intending to market 74.3m Williamsburg as a refit project. Complete with renderings, Williamsburg is ready and waiting to be restored to her former glory by a new Owner who has the imagination, a sense of history and deep pockets
This historic yacht gives buyers the unrepeatable opportunity to restore a significant piece of history into a supremely magnificent luxury motor yacht.
