It could be the name of a good old fashioned English pub but the frog and the butterfly in this instance are just two of the many creatures to be found inside the Ecocentro Danaus, a small but enthralling nature preserve in which you will like us just long to linger.
Located on the outskirts of the town called La Fortuna it is well run enterprise that seeks to highlight local conservation with an educational and at the same time entertaining twist.
During a a daytime visit to Ecocentro it is possible to observe a variety of plants including:
- Orchids
- Bromelias
- Palms
- Bushes
- Ferns
- Heliconias
All these plants attract more than 150 species of
- Birds
- Two and three fingers sloths
- Bats
- Caymans
- Iguanas
- Basilisks
- Snakes
- Frogs
- Butterflies
The Ecocentro is open year round from Monday to Sunday 8a.m. to 4 p.m. While visits are welcome to stop enjoy self guided tours at any time there are guided tours given by experienced naturalist guides who speak English and possess an extensive knowledge in cultural and natural history of the most outstanding local species.
By special arrangment a guided night tour can be set up and this provides a whole different perspective into this fascinating nature reserve
