Louise Godfrey, whose husband is husband is one of the 120 workers at Fitzroy Yachts in New Zealand who will be made redundant when the company closes its doors to building super yachts on February 28 is asking for help.
In support of the workers and their families she has created a Facebook page: www.facebook.com/supportingfitzroyyachtsworkers
The idea behind the initiative is to encourage businesses in and around the area of New Plymouth to post any current job vacancies directly on to the page to enable the workers to access this information quickly and easily.
It is also aiming to provide the families basic information on local services available to them to support them over the next month.
She has said, “I need doors opened yesterday! We need to keep these highly skilled workers in Taranaki where possible. Many of us have families and moving quickly is not an option. Please give us options. Jobs are the obvious start, but this is going to impact on the community in so many other ways – children’s learning, mental health, domestic violence, etc.”
She adds, “This is reality, it is happening, we need your support. I would also like to hear from anyone who can help with social issues. Please ”like” the page, and let me know if you can help me in any way.”
