International training and safety consultancy, WrightWay, was awarded the IHS Safety At Sea Training Award at the annual awards gala, held onboard HMS Belfast, London.
The award ceremony, now in its seventh year, recognises innovation and excellence in the maritime safety industry. An expert judging panel, comprising of representatives from across the maritime industry, selected WrightWay for its ‘Securing the Future’ culture change programme and Human Element Leadership and Management (HELM) training. The two combine to provide a workforce empowering process that creates a ‘one team’ approach to safety across a company.
Judges of the award said, “WrightWay has demonstrated its advanced approach to maritime safety through creating a culture of shared ownership and accountability, which results in fewer injuries, a safer and healthier working environment, a happier workforce and greater profits.”
Commenting on the award, the company’s founder, Captain John Wright, said, “I am absolutely thrilled to receive this award. It’s fantastic to be recognised by the marine industry for the efforts my colleagues and I have put into developing extremely robust training and culture change processes, to reduce the number of incidents at sea, whilst also saving businesses money and time.”
The award builds upon the company’s recent success when it became the first independent British company to be awarded the Human Element Leadership and Management (HELM) accreditation at management level.
They received the accreditation from the United Kingdom Maritime & Coastguard Agency (MCA) following a rigorous application process. The successful accreditation was the culmination of many years of lobbying by WrightWay to achieve recognition of the importance of human factors training in ensuring seafarers live and work in a safer environment.
Captain Wright and his team conducts human factors training and delivers ‘Securing the Future’ culture change workshops at a variety of locations in North America, Asia, Europe and the UK and has a long list of case histories demonstrating how companies have benefitted from its training and consultancy services. Their team of expert consultants has a broad range of skills and experience from many industry sectors including shipping, oil & gas, manufacturing, aviation and defence.
