In recent months there have been events were several Captains have found themselves grateful to Nautilus International for the help and guidance given to them by the organisation.
In more recent days I have been contacted by a Captain whose problems would have been solved instantly had he been a member. When I asked him why he was not he said because he had never heard of them.
So in case there are others who do not know the befits of membership here’s why I think Captains of super yachts should consider joining
Legal Protection
With the maritime profession under increasing risk of criminalisation, Nautilus Legal offers members an extensive range of legal services provided by specialist lawyers in 58 countries.
Members and their families also have access to a full range of legal services, including access to a helpline offering free initial advice on non-employment issues.
Certificate Insurance
As a full member, super yacht crews have free financial protection, worth up to £115,000, against loss of income if a certificate of competency is cancelled, suspended or downgraded following a formal inquiry.
Full members are also entitled to representation during accident investigations or inquiries.
Nautilus International’s legal department recovers more than £1m every year in compensation for members who have suffered work-related illness or injuries.
Workplace support
Nautilus International officials provide expert advice on work-related problems such as contracts, redundancy, bullying or discrimination, non-payment of wages, and pensions.
Safety and welfare
Nautilus International plays a vital role in national and international discussions on such key issues as hours of work, crewing levels, shipboard conditions, vessel design, and technical and training standards.
The Nautilus Welfare Fund charity operates a 15-acre welfare complex in Wallasey, England, which provides homes and care for retired seafarers, and administers welfare grants to seafarers in need.
New members can join by completing a membership form, on line at www.nautilusint.org or over the phone by calling the Membership Department on 0151 639 8454.
Join today and tell them I have recommended you do so!
