Derecktor Shipyard to Build Another Catamaran

It may not have the same visual appeal as Hemisphere the world’s largest cruising Catamaran, but the US based Derecktor shipyard is to build another catamaran.

They have secured an order to build a new 19 metre catamaran hulled research and classroom vessel for The Maritime Aquarium who are located in at Norwalk Connecticut.

The organisation has been providing student and public research voyages in the protected waters of Long Island Sound since 1988.

The new Incat Crowther-designed all-aluminum vessel will carry up to 65 students with a crew of 5.

The vessel will be fully ADA compliant and meet all current USCG Subchapter T requirements.

Paul Derecktor, the company’s President said, “This vessel’s requirements match our fundamental competencies: high-quality custom aluminum construction with complex machinery installations.”

Engineering will start immediately at Mamaroneck in the State of New York and delivery is anticipated in May 2014.
