Americas Cup is Raising Sails for an Economic Windfall in San Francisco

According to the Mayor’s Office of Economic and Workforce Development, America’s Cup Organizing Committee in San Francisco, the economic benefit to the region that Cup promoters expect the race to bring in is US$ $1.2 billion of overall benefit to the area.
Not a bad return on investment for the $12 million the City has budgeted for the event so far.
The America’s Cup Organising Committee has agreed to raise a total of $32 to offset city costs but with just $2 million so far raised they have a bit to go!

An estimated 5 million spectators are expected to descend on the city during the race period in the late summer of 2013
