The Use of Personal Watercraft

The Professional Yachtsmans Association (PYA) are reminding members that Maritime authorities throughout the Mediterranean are becoming more stringent about PW use.
In a briefing issued to members they point out that there have been a number of instances in which PW drivers, using PWs belonging to a yacht, have been subject to random checks and heavily fined when unable to provide an appropriate licence.
They suggest that it is important that Captains & Officers make themselves aware of local by-laws and regulations and then clearly inform the PW users of these restrictions.
The Royal Yachting Association (RYA) offers, through shore-based training establishments, a 1-day RYA Personal Watercraft Certificate that is recognised in most countries.
The RYA also provides the possibility for yachts to become an approved RYA Training Centre and to carry out on-board training leading to the issue of RYA PW Safety Certificates.
