According to a report in the Inner West Courier an Australian Newspaper a superyacht marina down under is about to impose a “no yobbo’’ policy.
A revamped super yacht marina at Rozelle Bay marina in Sydney hopes that while the proposed $26 million redevelopment of the facilities might be keeping wealthy yacht owners happy, it has reignited an old debate – whether the waterfront should be used purely for leisure, or as a working harbour.
The local Council has highlighted a range of concerns, from traffic and parking to foreshore access. They are happy that a new pedestrian promenade would be built but not so pleased with the fact that it will be closed to the public between midnight and 6am.
They say, “Restriction of access to the waterfront promenade will result in the privatisation of the waterfront,’’
Sydney Superyacht Marina chairman Brian James said the restriction would protect the boats and stop noise at night adding, “We’ll close it at midnight because we don’t want yobbos walking through it.’’
