Oman, seeks recognition as region’s top yachting lifestyle destinations

Mourjan Marinas IGY’s rapidly growing portfolio of projects across the Middle East continues to expand following the announcement it will fully manage and operate a stunning new world-class marina at The Wave, Muscat, Oman’s newly developed premier waterfront destination.
The Wave, Muscat, is the first integrated resort and residential development to be undertaken in the greater Muscat region and brings with it beautiful properties, a Greg Norman-designed golf course, five-star hotels and a host of new retail, leisure and dining opportunities all situated along a 7km seafront.
At the heart of The Wave, Muscat, lies the 400 plus berth marina, for sailing enthusiasts whilst providing an integrated marina lifestyle for residents.
The announcement that Mourjan Marinas IGY will develop The Wave, Muscat, follows a series of recent strategic partnerships it has undertaken in the region, including the development of the first marina within the Lusail City development in Doha, Qatar, and the operation of two marinas as part of the upcoming Marsa Al Seef project in the Kingdom of Bahrain.

The first phase of the new marina will open in the second quarter of 2011. As part of the development, the marina will provide harbour-side views, dining options ranging from al fresco to quaint coffee shops and a retail promenade offering shops together with traditional Omani  hospitality and culture.
The marina will also offer yacht maintenance and fuelling facilities at its Yacht Club to ensure smooth sailing for individual yacht owners.

The Wave, Muscat is the first 100 per cent freehold development in Oman and a public-private venture valued at US$2.5 billion. A mixed-use community spread along 6km of natural beach, The Wave, Muscat will comprise the country’s first 18 hole green links golf course, designed by Greg Norman; a 400-berth marina; apartments and townhouses; water, beach and garden-view villas; and 5-star hotels. Situated on 6 km of natural beach and just 10 minutes away from an existing shopping mall and the airport.
The Wave, Muscat, is being developed through a joint venture comprising Oman’s Waterfront Investments (representing the Government of the Sultanate of Oman), National Investment Funds Company (representing Omani Pension Funds), and the UAE-based Majid Al Futtaim Group.
