Mix Puerto Cervo with Perini to Produce Exciting Race
Twentytwo Perini Navi sailing yachts will gather in Porto Cervo’s new marina for the third edition of the Perini Navi Cup scheduled to take place from in September. Running from the 3rd to the 5th, the event combines a rendezvous for owners with big boat racing.
Organized for the first time this year by the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda, the fleet of superyachts will range from the 24.5 metre Elettra, launched in 1987, to the 88 metre Maltese Falcon, launched in 2006. Twenty of the participating yachts will measure more than 40 metres in length. The fleet will also include the very latest Perini Navi the 56 metre aluminium ketch Riela was launched in April and officially handed over to her owner on June 4 and will be cruising in the Mediterranean before attending the Perini Navi Cup. The 40 metre ketch Clan VI, launched in 1984, is the archetype of the Perini family and she will also be participating at Porto Cervo after having recently completed a round the world voyage.
The event will take in two days of racing off Sardinia’s Costa Smeralda. Coastal courses will be set using the many granite islands and islets of the La Maddalena archipelago as natural marks. The prevailing Mistral winds which have made the regatta course off Porto Cervo one of the world’s most famous, combined with the stunning natural backdrop should make for magnificent sailing. Ashore, owners, guests and crews will enjoy a full social programme that includes receptions, crew competitions a gala dinner and prize giving ceremony at the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda Clubhouse.
