Three years after the creation of ICON Yachts in Holland, the yards first 62 metre yacht has begun sea trials that will lead to her public debut, at this years Monaco Yacht Show in September.
The fist of the yachts, seen here, is designed by Redman Whiteley Dixon who were selected to style the exterior by owners of yachts numbers 1 & 2 with Tim Heywood recommended by Burgess styling for the owner of hull number 3.
Each has a different interior designer and all owners have opted for a duplex split level master suite.
Former project manager Wim Koersvelt launched the building company in 2006, and acquired a commercial facility, with capacity to build or maintain super yachts of up to 135 metres in length. They aim to build efficiently using pioneering modular techniques borrowed from commercial ship building practices.
Self-contained modules of machinery, 21 in the engine room alone, are built and tested before being installed. This makes for cleaner and more efficient assembly line. Bolting and bonding the superstructure to the hull rather than welding is just one example of innovation used by commercial ship builders.
Sub contractors specialising in different areas from noise and vibration to electronics along with LED lighting, were involved from the outset to ensure all shared the vision of producing a special yacht
