What sad news to hear that the beautiful superyacht Yogi sank on Friday. She was a charter yacht with Burgess and was available from €357,000 per week.

Yogi had butch, purposeful, seaman-like looks and a definite spirit of expedition feel. Her 60 metre hull was peppered with large side windows and oversized portholes that ensure natural light permeated the interior and while doing so, gave the vessel a pleasing look to her profile

She was the middle of three yachts to be launched by Proteksan Turquoise in the spring of 2011. The first to emerge was Turquoise and within weeks of Yogi taking to the water the 74 metre Talisman C joined her sisters on the dock face at the shipyard.

The yacht’s French owner always intended his yacht to be a resort on the water. As well as the exterior styling, Jean Guy Vergès was also responsible for the yacht’s interior design. If Yogi’s exterior was straight lined and cornered, then the yacht’s interior could not be more different. Quiet, calm, clean, contemporary and relaxing, the space was full of soft lines and natural curves that blend in with the quietly understated Asian feel the designer sought to bestow using soft natural colours and earthen shades.

Loyal to his country the owner had chosen to flag the yacht in France, an unusual step in the superyacht world and going the whole hog, he had also engaged the Frenchman Jean-Louis Carrel to command her. The Captain in turn had chosen a French speaking crew. Carrel was full of praise for his ship and has enjoyed a trouble free season cruising the Mediterranean since the yacht was launched in the spring.
